Two State Street Crashes Related, Police Believe

SCHENECTADY, NY – On Monday, at approximately 2:46 PM, the Schenectady Police Department received two simultaneous 911 calls.

The first reported a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of State Street and Brandywine Avenue, while the second reported a vehicle crashing into Star Liquor at 1142 State Street.

Witnesses observed the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash fleeing the scene on foot. With the combined efforts of the Schenectady Police Traffic Division and Schenectady County Street Crimes Task Force (SCSCTF), the driver, identified as Karam Lulu, 30, of Schenectady, was apprehended near the crash site.

Mr. Lulu faces charges including Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, and multiple traffic violations.

He received medical attention at the scene and was later transported to Ellis Hospital for further care.
