Man Wielding Knife Shot by Police in New Brunswick

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – On Friday afternoon, a man armed with a knife was shot by police near Route 27 and Mitchell Avenue. Officers from the Franklin Township and New Brunswick Police Departments responded to a report of an assault in progress.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, the unidentified man lunged at them with a knife. One officer shot and struck the man, who was then taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in stable condition.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the incident. It remains unclear which police department the involved officer belongs to.

As the investigation is ongoing, no further information has been released at this time.
