Store Clerk’s Mistake Turns Into $580,000 Jackpot for Maryland Man

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – A clerk’s mistake at a gas station led an Upper Marlboro man to a $580,000 Multi-Match jackpot, turning an ordinary day into a life-changing event.

The loyal Maryland Lottery player stopped at Campus Way Exxon to buy Cash4Life tickets but ended up with a Multi-Match ticket due to an error by a new clerk. Accepting the ticket, he later discovered it won the jackpot from the Sept. 11 drawing. “This is the biggest prize of my life,” he said, attributing the win to “divine intervention.”

The man discovered the win through the Lottery’s mobile app and confirmed it at the same retailer later that day. Both he and his wife plan to use the windfall to pay off a child’s college loan, cover bills, and launch a family-run healthcare business focusing on geriatric care.

Campus Way Exxon will receive a $1,000 bonus for the ticket sale. This marks the sixth Multi-Match jackpot win of the year.
