BOSTON, MA – Dane Mitchell, a 32-year-old resident of Boston and Revere, pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and drug charges. U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV scheduled sentencing for January 9, 2024.

An investigation in 2021 identified Mitchell as the owner of a Snapchat account displaying images of himself with firearms and bullet holes in his vehicle. Mitchell is barred from owning firearms due to a 2018 federal conviction in Maine for unlawful transportation of firearms. He had previously served 27 months in prison and was on three years of supervised release.

In December 2021, a search of Mitchell’s residence in Revere uncovered a Taurus TCP Model 738 PT .380 caliber pistol with an obliterated serial number, ammunition, bags of cocaine, cocaine base, fentanyl, and drug packaging equipment.

The charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Possession with intent to distribute cocaine carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.
