COLUMBUS — A veteran Columbus Police officer was seriously injured while on duty and is currently in stable condition, according to the Columbus Division of Police. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, near Trabue Road and Quarry Trails Drive.

The officer, who has dedicated 26 years to the Columbus Division of Police, was directing traffic as part of a special assignment when he was tragically struck by an excavator. First responders at the scene promptly applied a tourniquet to the officer’s leg to prevent further blood loss.

He was then rushed to the hospital, where medical personnel are treating him for severe injuries to his lower body.

In a statement issued on their official Facebook page, the Columbus Division of Police expressed, “We continue to ask for your thoughts and prayers for our officer and his family.” The community and fellow officers await further updates on his condition.
