Early Morning Shooting in East Charlotte Leaves One Dead

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A fatal shooting occurred in east Charlotte early Wednesday morning, leaving 34-year-old Simon Yemane Semere dead.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) confirmed that officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 6600 block of Wenda Place around 5 a.m.

Upon arrival, they found Semere with an apparent gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several departments, including CSI, Operations Command, Victim Services, Charlotte Fire, and Medic, responded to the crime scene. CMPD also informed the public of expected traffic delays near Idlewild Road on Wednesday.

The investigation remains open and active, and any individuals with information are asked to come forward.
