PHILADELPHIA, PA – A hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 33-year-old male pedestrian in the early hours of last Wednesday.
The collision occurred in the 24th District at the intersection of Lehigh Ave. and Emerald St. Reports from the scene indicate that at approximately 3:01 am, a black SUV, traveling west on the 1900 block of Lehigh Ave., ran a red light and struck the victim as he crossed the street within the designated crosswalk.
The force of the impact caused the victim to be dragged several hundred feet along Lehigh Ave. The unidentified driver of the SUV fled the scene at a high rate of speed, heading west on Lehigh Ave.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene where the victim was pronounced deceased at 3:12 am.
