Maryland Fire Marshals Release Photo of Vacant House Arson Suspect in Smithsburg

SMITHSBURG, MARYLAND — The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is seeking public assistance to identify an individual connected to a vacant house fire in Washington County last week.

On the morning of last Wednesday, at approximately 8:40 a.m., Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Company, along with other local fire departments, responded to a fire at a vacant residence located at 23266 Fruit Tree Lane in Smithsburg. Following the incident, investigators secured an image of a person observed in the vicinity shortly before or after the blaze. Authorities are eager to speak with this individual to gather information about the event.

Deputy State Fire Marshal Rocky Reed is leading the inquiry and encourages anyone with knowledge of the person’s identity to contact him at 301-729-5542.
