FAR ROCKAWAY, NY – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has charged Evadne Harrington with animal abuse after her dog was found in dire conditions. The dog, discovered on December 21, was chained, malnourished, and surrounded by filth in Harrington’s apartment.
The dog, named Puddin, was found with no access to food or water, suffering from severe malnutrition and skin infections. Police were alerted to the situation on the same day, leading to the dog’s immediate medical rescue and Harrington’s subsequent arraignment.
Harrington, 41, is accused of failing to provide necessary sustenance to the animal. She could face up to a year in jail if convicted. Her court return is scheduled for July 1.
The rescue operation highlighted the grim conditions Puddin endured, including a padlocked collar that restricted her movement. Puddin’s recovery involved urgent veterinary care and she is now awaiting adoption in foster care.
This case was spearheaded by Police Officer Kayleigh Specht and Sergeant Marshall Winston of the 101st Precinct.
