ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of 26-year-old Rigoberto Lopez Castro of Spring Valley, New York, on several charges of rape and burglary. The verdict follows a two-week jury trial presided over by the Honorable Kevin J. Russo.
The crimes occurred on consecutive nights in September 2022 in the Village of Spring Valley. On September 12, Castro forcibly raped a woman, known to him, using a belt to threaten her life and physically assaulting her. The following night, he broke into her home and raped her again, further assaulting her and causing significant injuries.
Lopez Castro was found guilty of two counts of Rape in the First Degree and one count of Burglary in the First Degree. District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II emphasized the commitment to prosecuting sexual violence and commended the work of law enforcement and prosecutors in the case.
