Manheim Borough – A teacher at IU13 Early Childhood and Special Education Services in Manheim had their thumb partially severed after an incident involving a student, as confirmed by both the school and the Manheim Borough police.

The institution, also known as Central Education Center, acts on behalf of 22 public school districts in Lancaster and Lebanon counties.

The biting incident occurred on Thursday morning, April 18, according to official statements provided by the school and law enforcement. Staff acted promptly, and local first responders were called to the scene to assist following protocol, revealed the school’s Communications Director Shannan Guthrie.

Responding to a reported assault on a teacher that led to a severe injury, the Manheim Borough police dispatched officers to the school. Matt Stern, the school’s Executive Director, issued a statement recognizing the dedication of their educators and staff, highlighting their commitment to children with significant needs.

Stern expressed concern for the well-being of the affected teacher and the school community, praising the professionalism and care exhibited by local first responders and staff during the incident. Due to the minor status of the student involved, both the police and the school have refrained from disclosing further details to the public, including the current condition of the staff member.
