Wildfire in Wharton State Forest: Current Updates

Firefighters are currently battling a 100-acre wildfire at Wharton State Forest in Burlington and Camden counties. The fire broke out on Wednesday, April 24, along Jackson Road in Shamong, according to authorities from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. The forest service has dispatched ground crews and an observation helicopter to handle the situation.

The crews are implementing a backfire operation to burn fuel ahead of the main fire, aiding in containment efforts, as confirmed by state forest fire officials.

In response to the wildfire, several park closures have been announced. The Goshen Campground has been evacuated and shut down, while Burnt Mill Trail, Goshen Pond Trail, and Sleeper Creek Trail are also closed to visitors. Fortunately, officials have stated that no structures are currently in jeopardy due to the blaze.
