EMMITSBURG, MD — Fire Hero Families from across the United States will convene in Emmitsburg, MD, for the 43rd Annual National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) Memorial Weekend on May 4-5, 2024. The weekend’s events, including a Candlelight Service on Saturday evening and a Memorial Service on Sunday morning, will be held at the PNC Sports Complex Arena at Mount St. Mary’s University due to expected weather conditions.
The Candlelight Service is scheduled for 7:30 PM on May 4, where families will participate in a ceremony featuring the Remembrance Candle, symbolizing hope and solidarity among those who have lost a firefighter. St. Louis Missouri Fire Captain Garon Mosby, a Public Information Officer, will emcee the event.
The Memorial Service will take place at 10:00 AM on May 5, acknowledging the bravery and sacrifice of 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023, and 137 from previous years. Actor Jeremy Holm, son of retired Chief T. Dean Holm, will host the service. Each honored firefighter’s family will receive an American flag, a badge, and a rose during the tribute. The names of the fallen will be inscribed on a bronze plaque at the National Memorial, permanently commemorating their service.
