Woman Loses $300 in Online Apartment Scam in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, PA — A 25-year-old woman fell victim to an apartment rental scam, as reported to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department on Sunday at approximately 5:57 PM. The incident occurred on Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, PA.

According to the victim, she encountered the fraudulent listing on FACEBOOK Marketplace and proceeded to send $300 via a payment app, along with several Apple gift card codes, to the purported landlord.

Upon attempting to collect the keys to the apartment, she discovered that the property was already occupied and not available for rent.

The Wilkes-Barre City Police are actively investigating the incident as the victim seeks recourse for the financial loss and deception.
