Manhattan, NY – Early Monday morning, a 20-year-old man was hospitalized after being shot multiple times near Washington Square Park.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. as police worked to disperse crowds when fights broke out following Pride celebrations. Bullet markers were later observed at the scene, as investigators sought to identify the shooter responsible for wounding the young man in his buttocks and right hand.

Sunday’s Pride festivities drew massive crowds to the area, resulting in several altercations near the park. Police efforts to manage the disorderly groups were challenged by the escalating tensions.

Throughout the events and subsequent disturbances, 22 arrests were made. Sixteen of those detained were given desk appearance tickets and released, while six others are still being held with pending charges.

The injured man is currently receiving medical care, and authorities are continuing their search for the gunman. They are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation.
