SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Ground Level Ozone from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday. This alert applies to the following counties: Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Middlesex, Western Monmouth, Eastern Monmouth, Mercer, Gloucester, Camden, Northwestern Burlington, Ocean, Coastal Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Western Monmouth, Ocean, and Southeastern Burlington Counties, in effect until 8 p.m. today. Residents in these areas can expect dangerously hot conditions with heat index values reaching up to 110 degrees.
The extreme heat and high humidity increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sunlight, and check on relatives and neighbors.
When outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Be alert for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Today’s forecast includes scattered showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 1 p.m., with a high near 92 degrees and heat index values as high as 105. South winds will be 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%, with potential for heavy rainfall.
Tonight, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., with a low around 73 degrees and south winds at 5 to 10 mph, becoming light southwest after midnight. The chance of precipitation is 20%. Some storms may produce heavy rainfall.
