Fugitive in Deadly Jersey Shore Shooting Arrested in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY – A fugitive connected to a fatal shooting in Hazlet last weekend has been apprehended in Brooklyn, New York. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced the arrest on Friday.

Gaetano S. Scannavino, 25, originally from Brooklyn, was detained on Thursday by members of the New York City Police Department’s 61st and 62nd Precincts. The arrest follows an investigation into the incident that occurred on Saturday.

On Saturday at approximately 7:18 a.m., Hazlet Police Department officers responded to an EMS call in the parking lot of 270 Route 36. Upon arrival, they found 42-year-old Anthony Hill of Eatontown deceased near a dumpster, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The investigation, involving the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Hazlet Police Department, identified Scannavino as the suspect.

He has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree carjacking, and two second-degree weapons offenses.

Scannavino is currently detained in New York, awaiting extradition for proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court.
