by Breaking Local News Report

West Chester, PA – The Chester County District Attorney’s Office has announced the arrest of David Maurer, 55, a Detective Sergeant with the West Goshen Township Police Department. Maurer is accused of taking controlled substances for personal use from a medication collection box on Wednesday.

Maurer has been charged with Possession of Controlled Substances and Theft by Unlawful Taking. He was apprehended and arraigned on Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Martin Goch. Following his arraignment, Maurer was released on his own recognizance.

On the day of the incident, Maurer was tasked with emptying medication collection boxes at the West Goshen Township Police Department and Chester County Hospital. These boxes are part of a county program for the safe disposal of unwanted medications. Maurer allegedly retained several pill bottles containing controlled substances for himself rather than ensuring their proper disposal.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866.
