UNION CITY, N.J. — The death of a 56-year-old man found unresponsive behind a building on 23rd Street earlier this month has been ruled a homicide, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.

Reynaldo Gonzalez was discovered lifeless on the morning of November 14 by Union City police officers, who were notified about an unresponsive individual behind the building. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 11:30 a.m.

On November 26, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined Gonzalez’s death was caused by complications from blunt force injuries and classified the manner of death as homicide. Following the report, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit officially took over the investigation.

The circumstances surrounding Gonzalez’s injuries and death remain unclear, and detectives are working with Union City police to uncover additional details.
