Annapolis woman celebrates $50K Powerball win ahead of retirement

by Local News Report

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A Powerball player from Annapolis celebrated a $50,000 third-tier prize, which she says confirmed her decision to retire this year. The Anne Arundel County woman purchased the winning quick-pick ticket for the Jan. 11 drawing after reflecting on memories of her late father.

The woman, an occasional Lottery player, said she used to play scratch-offs with her father during his illness and now buys tickets when she thinks of him. Her $4 quick-pick ticket, purchased at Green Valley Marketplace on Bay Dale Drive in Arnold, matched four white balls and the Powerball number to win $50,000.

After realizing her win, the player took her time to let the news sink in before calling her two children and close friends to share her excitement. She plans to use the prize to bolster her retirement plans, which she says now feel perfectly timed. The retailer will also receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
