Gun scare at Maryland middle school as teen suspect caught with loaded weapon

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — A 14-year-old middle school student is facing possible charges after a loaded gun was recovered on the grounds of a Prince George’s County school, police confirmed Friday.

The weapon was discovered Thursday afternoon outside Kenmoor Middle School in Landover, located in the 2500 block of Kenmoor Drive. Prince George’s County Public Schools personnel contacted police around 1:40 p.m. after finding the firearm in the school’s parking lot.

According to investigators, the 8th-grade student believed to be in possession of the weapon fled from school security officers before the gun was recovered.

Charges pending as investigation continues

The Prince George’s County Police Department said charges are pending against the 14-year-old suspect. No injuries were reported during the incident, and the investigation remains active.

Officials have not released additional details regarding how the student obtained the weapon or the circumstances that led to its discovery.
