NEW YORK, N.Y. — A Manhattan man has been arrested on multiple sexual misconduct charges, while police are asking for the public’s help identifying another suspect wanted in a separate incident that occurred aboard a southbound subway train.
Gerson Fernandez, 33, of 131 West 25th Street, was arrested and charged with two counts of forcible touching and one count of sexual abuse in the third degree. Details of the specific incidents tied to his charges have not yet been released by police.
In a separate case, the NYPD is seeking an unidentified male involved in a sexual misconduct incident that took place on Wednesday, April 30, at approximately 8:35 a.m. on a southbound 1 train near the 191st Street station, located in the 24th Precinct and Transit District 3.
According to police, a 34-year-old female was onboard the train when the male suspect approached her, grabbed her waist, and grinded against her buttocks. The suspect remained on the train after the incident. The victim was not physically injured and later reported the assault to authorities.
NYPD releases image in ongoing subway harassment investigation
Authorities released a surveillance image of the man sought in connection with the 1 train incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been made in that case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Sexual misconduct on public transit remains a priority focus for the NYPD, particularly as ridership increases across the subway system. Police continue to deploy plainclothes officers and surveillance to deter unwanted physical contact and assault.
