MANCHESTER, N.J. — Three newly appointed Special Law Enforcement Class I Officers were sworn in during Monday’s Township Council meeting, marking the latest additions to Manchester Township’s public safety team ahead of the busy spring and summer seasons.
Michael Kelliher, Nathaniel Kelliher, and Austin Williams took their oaths of office on May 12 during a ceremony attended by fellow officers, local officials, family, and friends. The Class I officers are authorized to perform routine traffic assignments, crowd control, and various support duties throughout the township.
Their responsibilities will include maintaining safety in public spaces such as parks, recreation areas, and facilities like Harry Wright Lake. They may also assist with security functions at municipal buildings and courts, as well as in processing arrestees.
Michael Kelliher, a former Manchester Police Auxiliary Officer, holds degrees from The College of New Jersey and Rider University and has worked as a teacher in the Hamilton School District. His son, Nathaniel Kelliher, is a Manchester resident with prior Class I experience in Surf City and is currently continuing his studies at The College of New Jersey.
Austin Williams, originally from Toms River, brings a background in mental health services and has completed training in de-escalation and crisis intervention. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Stockton University.
Chief Antonio Ellis expressed pride in the appointments, and the township recognized the ongoing support of Mayor Joseph Hankins and the Council in making the program possible.
