SILVER SPRING, Md. — A construction worker from Northern Virginia is heating up after winning $50,000 on the Maryland Lottery’s new Fire scratch-off game while visiting Montgomery County.
The Alexandria resident purchased the $30 ticket at R C Checks Cashed on Grandview Avenue in Silver Spring. The win marks the first claimed second-tier prize in the Fire game, which launched in late April.
He visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his prize, saying he only plays scratch-offs occasionally. This time, that decision paid off with a five-figure payout. The winner plans to save and invest the money.
The Fire game still has two top prizes of $2 million remaining, along with five more $50,000 prizes and thousands of lower-tier awards.
The Virginia winner joins a growing list of out-of-state players claiming prizes in Maryland since the launch of the Fire scratch-off.
