SALUDA, N.C. — A 32-year-old woman was arrested Friday after her newborn tested positive for fentanyl, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Jessica Cho, of Saluda, was charged with child abuse following an investigation conducted by the Major Crimes Unit – Special Victims. The case began after authorities received a report indicating the presence of fentanyl in a newborn’s system.
Following what the sheriff’s office described as a “thorough inquiry,” investigators said they determined there was sufficient evidence to support the child abuse charge.
Cho was taken into custody without incident. She is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
No further details about the investigation or the condition of the infant have been released.
Sheriff’s office cites protection of case details
The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office stated that it will withhold additional information to preserve the integrity of the ongoing legal process.
“The Major Crimes Unit- Special Victims is committed to remain vigilant and ensuring the safety of all children in Henderson County,” the department said in its release.
The agency did not provide information regarding whether other individuals were involved or if additional charges may be filed.
Court dates and legal representation for Cho were not disclosed at the time of the announcement.
Cho’s case is pending adjudication in Henderson County District Court.
