Essex County player wins top prize in New Jersey Lottery’s Win for Life scratch-off

by Local News Report

TRENTON, N.J. — A $3 ticket led to a life-changing win for an Essex County resident, who claimed one of the top prizes in the New Jersey Lottery’s Win for Life scratch-off game, the agency announced Monday.

The winning ticket, which guarantees at least $1.5 million paid out over 25 annual installments, was purchased at Lucky 7 Deli, located at 397 Centre Street in Nutley. The winner chose the annuity option. One top prize remains in the Win for Life game.

The player picked up the ticket during a dinner outing, selecting a $10 ticket along with a few $3 Win for Life tickets. The decision to stop at a store they don’t typically visit proved to be a fortunate one.

Win for Life is one of the Lottery’s annuity-based games, offering a prize structure spread across two and a half decades.

Two others were claimed on June 1, including one sold at W’s Freshmart, 2490 US Highway 22 East in Union, and another from Convenience Food Stop, 184 Rivervale Road in Rivervale, Bergen County.

There are 13 top prizes remaining in the $10 Jumbo Bucks game, according to the New Jersey Lottery.

The Lottery has contributed nearly $33.7 billion to the state since its inception in 1970. Proceeds currently support the public employee pension system under a 30-year agreement enacted in 2017.
