Rain and fog to start the week at Jersey Shore before midweek sunshine returns

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — Patchy rain and cloudy skies are expected to dominate the start of the week along the Jersey Shore, with improving conditions by midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

Today, forecasters predict patchy showers and thunderstorms through early afternoon, followed by a slight chance of rain between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Morning fog is likely before noon. The high temperature is expected to reach near 69 degrees, with light east winds around 5 mph. The chance of rain is 40 percent, with rainfall totals staying below a tenth of an inch, except in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Tonight, there remains a 30 percent chance of showers and possible thunderstorms, mainly between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. The low will be around 61 degrees, with light winds becoming calm overnight. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain minimal.

Tuesday brings a higher likelihood of precipitation, with showers likely and possible thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Skies will remain mostly cloudy, with a high near 77 degrees. Winds will be calm in the morning, becoming southwest near 5 mph later in the day. Forecasters estimate rainfall totals between a quarter and a half inch.

Clear skies and warmer weather by midweek

By Tuesday night, skies are forecast to clear gradually, becoming mostly clear after midnight. The low will dip to around 60 degrees with calm wind conditions.

Wednesday is expected to be sunny with a significant warm-up. High temperatures will reach near 84 degrees, with a light west wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday night is predicted to remain clear, with overnight lows around 63 degrees.

The Jersey Shore forecast includes scattered rain early in the week with a gradual return to clear skies and warmer temperatures by Wednesday.
