EDGEWOOD, Md. — A Harford County resident turned Father’s Day into a major payday, winning $6,500 as the Maryland Lottery’s Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game during the Orioles’ June 15 matchup.
Rich McFadden of Edgewood was selected for the promotion, which awards $500 for selection, $500 per Orioles home run, and $5,000 for a grand slam. The Orioles delivered early with a solo home run from Ramón Urías in the first inning.
Later in the game, Orioles catcher Gary Sánchez launched a seventh-inning grand slam, pushing McFadden’s total winnings up by $5,000. A final home run in the eighth inning brought the full prize amount to $6,500.
McFadden entered the contest through the Maryland Lottery’s second-chance promotion, using a FAST PLAY Home Run Riches Walk-Off Winnings ticket. The win added excitement to a day already spent with family and watching Orioles baseball.
Orioles continue streak of rewarding fans
The $5 FAST PLAY ticket offers instant prizes from $5 to $5,000, with a progressive jackpot that grows until claimed. As of Friday morning, the jackpot stands at more than $68,000.
McFadden is the third contestant to win due to a grand slam this season, following winners from Germantown and Baltimore.
