EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Firefighters have achieved 90% containment of a wildfire that has burned through 40 acres in Evesham Township, Burlington County, according to a Thursday update from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. The fire, which began earlier in the week, initially threatened 15 homes in the area of Sycamore Avenue but no evacuations were ultimately necessary, and no structures are currently at risk.
Fire crews have worked over recent days to control the spread of the blaze, which is not yet fully extinguished. The Forest Fire Service expects smoke to linger in the area until significant rain falls. Crews will remain on scene to monitor control lines and address any remaining hotspots as needed.
No roads in the area have been closed, and local traffic is currently unaffected by the incident. Officials stated that fire service staff will stay on-site to ensure public safety until rainfall helps suppress the remaining embers.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
