HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A Hackettstown man was charged after police responded to the Hackettstown Community Pool at 499 Warren Street on Wednesday afternoon for a report of alleged lewd conduct inside the facility.

According to the Hackettstown Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. and identified the suspect as Harry R. Muller, 77, of Long Valley. Authorities said the investigation began after receiving a report that a man was allegedly masturbating inside the pool facility.

Investigation at community pool

Police said an officer who contacted Muller observed that his bathing suit appeared to be rolled or cuffed at the seam of the right leg, shortening its length. When Muller sat up, officers reported that his bathing suit rode high enough for his penis to become visible.

Investigators were also told that Muller was allegedly performing lewd gestures with a child’s bathing suit while inside a bathroom at the pool facility. Detectives with the Hackettstown Police Department continued investigating the allegations following the initial response.

Charges filed

As a result of the investigation, Muller was charged with lewdness and disorderly conduct. Court records were not immediately available to indicate whether he has retained legal counsel.

Police said Muller was released pending a future court appearance. The charges are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
