Stafford, VA – The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 19-year-old man was arrested following a car chase which ended in a successful apprehension by law enforcement.
On Monday, Sergeant G.A. Haney initiated the pursuit after observing a traffic violation on Richmond Highway and Port Aquia Drive last Monday afternoon.
Despite the driver’s attempt to flee by driving erratically and maneuvering onto the shoulder to bypass traffic, Sergeant Haney managed to keep pace with the Toyota Sienna in pursuit. The chase continued to the Stafford Market Place intersection, where the driver turned into a service road between Applebee’s and Panera Bread, reaching speeds exceeding 40 MPH in the parking lot. Sergeant Haney strategically intervened, using his cruiser to block the fleeing vehicle and bring the pursuit to a halt.
The driver, later identified as Grant Egan, initially resisted commands and opted to contact his father instead of complying with law enforcement orders. Upon further investigation, Egan was found in possession of a vape. Authorities revealed that this was not Egan’s first attempt to evade capture, as he had been arrested for a similar offense the previous year.
As a result, Egam faced multiple charges including felony eluding, improper lane change, reckless driving, and underage possession of vape products.
He was subsequently detained at Rappahannock Regional Jail after posting a $3,500 secured bond.
