Newark Woman Sought in Connection With Shooting

NEWARK, NJ—The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 20-year-old Malayiah Russell Valentin of Newark, who is wanted for questioning related to a shooting investigation. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 12:41 a.m. after reports of shots fired on the 100 block of 1st Street. Upon arrival, officers found no victims but noted property damage caused by the gunfire.

Malayiah Russell Valentin is described as being 5’2” tall and weighing 120 pounds. She is known to frequent areas around Brighton Avenue near Wilson Avenue in Kearny, and Myrtle Avenue near Grove Terrace in Irvington.
