THURMONT, Md. — A Pick 3 player from Western Maryland recently struck it big with a scratch-off ticket, winning the $50,000 top prize in the Money Money Money game.
The Frederick County man, who works as a packaging official, decided to try his luck with scratch-offs after noticing a long line of people purchasing them at Mountain View Convenience & Food Mart in Thurmont. He bought two $5 Money Money Money instant tickets and took them home.
“I wasn’t expecting to win anything big,” he said. “When I saw how much of a win it was, I was a little unsure.”
The man scratched the first ticket and found a matching number, revealing a $50,000 prize. In disbelief, he returned to the Lottery retailer to confirm his win. The first person he called with the news was his daughter.
“He said he wanted to show me something,” said his daughter, who accompanied him to Lottery headquarters this week. “I was skeptical, but he said it had been confirmed.”
After sharing the news, the winner secured the ticket in a safe until he could claim his prize. He plans to use the funds to help family members as needed and save the rest.
Mountain View Convenience & Food Mart, located at 140 Frederick Road in Thurmont, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
The Money Money Money game, which began in March, still has four $50,000 top prizes, nine $5,000 prizes, and hundreds of thousands of other prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
