TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A car crash on Cedar Grove Road Saturday knocked out power to more than 4,000 homes and businesses in Toms River, causing significant disruptions across the township.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Cedar Grove Road and Northampton Boulevard when a vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing it down and scattering live wires across the roadway. Emergency crews and technicians from Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) were dispatched to the scene to assess the damage and begin repairs.
According to JCP&L, approximately 4,200 customers in Toms River were left without electricity as a result of the crash. Crews are working to restore service, but officials warned residents that repairs could take several hours.
Police closed off a section of Cedar Grove Road as utility workers and first responders cleared the scene and began replacing the damaged pole. Authorities have not released information about the driver involved in the crash or what may have caused the accident.
Residents in the area have been advised to avoid the vicinity of the crash and to remain patient as power restoration efforts continue.
The crash has left thousands in Toms River without power, with full restoration expected to take time.
