Multiple crashes continue to slow traffic in new jersey's morning commute

NEWARK, N.J. — Morning commuters across New Jersey faced significant delays Tuesday as crashes, disabled vehicles, and heavy volume disrupted major roadways statewide.

On the New Jersey Turnpike/I-95 express lanes southbound, a crash south of Exit 72 near US 9W/US 1&9/US 46 in Englewood forced vehicles to the right shoulder. All lanes are open, but residual delays persist. Further south, a disabled tractor-trailer near Exit 72 in Leonia continues to block one right lane, adding to the congestion.

A crash on the Pulaski Skyway southbound near US 1&9 Truck Route and Raymond Boulevard in Newark closed one right lane, leading to backups for drivers in the area. On the Garden State Parkway, northbound traffic near the Jon Bon Jovi Service Area in Old Bridge Township slowed as a crash in the express lanes blocked the left lane. Earlier in Saddle Brook Township, a disabled vehicle at the Bergen Toll Plaza caused additional slowdowns with one left lane blocked.

In Morris County, two right lanes on I-80 westbound east of Exit 30 at Howard Boulevard in Roxbury Township remain closed due to an overturned tractor-trailer. On the Turnpike’s local lanes northbound, a crash north of Exit 72A near NJ 4 in Fort Lee caused delays earlier, with all affected vehicles moved to the right shoulder.

Elsewhere, delays due to heavy volume were reported on several major roadways, including NJ 495 eastbound, where travel times from North Bergen Township to Union City stretched to 20–25 minutes. At the Holland Tunnel, eastbound traffic toward New York from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C and NJ 139 at Tonnelle Circle was delayed by 30 minutes.

Traffic remains slow on US 1 northbound in West Windsor Township approaching Harrison Street, on NJ 42 northbound from Deptford Township to Bellmawr, and on I-76 westbound from Exit 1A in Bellmawr to Gloucester City. Volume-related delays are also affecting sections of NJ 29, I-287, I-295, and NJ 24.

Drivers are advised to expect continued congestion throughout the morning as road conditions remain active across the state.
