PG County police charge suspect in fatal July shooting

LAUREL, MD — A 48-year-old Laurel man has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in late July that left a Greenbelt resident dead in the roadway, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

James King IV has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in the killing of 33-year-old William Denard Askew. The shooting occurred on July 25 around 10:20 p.m. in the 13200 block of Laurel Bowie Road, in the unincorporated area of Laurel.

Responding officers arrived to find Askew suffering from gunshot wounds in the roadway near the scene. He was pronounced dead on site.

It remains unclear if King and Askew knew each other. Investigators have not yet disclosed a possible motive, and the case remains under active investigation.

King is currently being held without bond at the Department of Corrections.
