Suspect sought after assault on special police officer in Northwest DC

Washington, DC – Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who assaulted a special police officer during a routine patrol in Northwest over the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 30, at around 2:00 p.m. in the unit block of Banner Lane NW. Officials said the officer was on duty when he was physically attacked by the suspect, who fled the scene on foot immediately after the assault.

The Metropolitan Police Department released a photo of the suspect on Wednesday and is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

Anyone who recognizes the individual or has knowledge of the case is urged not to approach the suspect but to call MPD at (202) 727-9099 or send a tip by text to 50411.
