Salisbury woman scores second big lottery win with $100K scratch-off prize

Baltimore, MD – A retired nurse from Salisbury is celebrating her second major Maryland Lottery prize after claiming $100,000 on a Crossword scratch-off ticket purchased in Wicomico County.

The longtime player bought the winning $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition ticket at Ocean Stop inside the Valero gas station at 27430 Ocean Gateway in Hebron. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winner.

This isn’t her first big win. More than a decade ago, she won $10,000 playing another crossword-themed game. Crossword and bingo tickets remain her favorites, and she often describes playing them as her way of relaxing at the end of the day.05

She explained that she noticed the 9th edition of the $100,000 Crossword had just launched, but since a few 8th edition tickets were still available, she purchased one of those instead. That choice turned into a six-figure payday after she scratched the ticket later that evening.

The winner says she sets aside “fun money” for playing scratch-offs and monitors odds and remaining prizes on the Maryland Lottery website. She considers playing tickets her hobby, not a luxury, and says she has no immediate plans for her winnings.

The Maryland Lottery notes that prizes of $100,000 must be claimed at its headquarters in Baltimore, where she redeemed her ticket on September 10.
