Bodies found after early morning fire rips through Southwest Baltimore homes
BALTIMORE, MD – A deadly fire tore through what are believed to be vacant homes on Wilhelm Street early Saturday morning, leaving two people dead and sparking a full-scale arson and homicide investigation.
Shortly after 2 a.m., police and fire crews rushed to the 1900 block of Wilhelm Street following reports of a structure fire in Southwest Baltimore. Firefighters arrived to find multiple homes engulfed in flames and immediately began battling the blaze.
Once the fire was under control, a K-9 unit was deployed to search the damaged structures. Inside, two deceased individuals were found among the charred remains. Their identities and causes of death have not yet been confirmed.
Baltimore Police say it is still unclear if the homes were occupied or abandoned at the time of the fire. Arson detectives, along with members of the Homicide and Fire Investigation Bureau, are actively working to determine how the fire started and whether it was set intentionally.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Their remains have been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsy.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. The investigation remains ongoing.
