Suspect in bright orange jacket charged with robbery after store theft turns violent near OSU campus
COLUMBUS, OH — A midday theft turned into a robbery near the Ohio State University campus on Tuesday after a suspect assaulted a store employee before fleeing, leading to a swift arrest just blocks away.
The incident unfolded at 12:14 p.m. on October 22, when officers responded to reports of a theft from a business in the 2000 block of North High Street. According to police, the store manager reported that a man entered the business, took merchandise without paying, and then exited.
When a store employee attempted to stop him outside, the suspect began punching at her, prompting a robbery classification due to the use of force. Officers were quickly updated that a nearby Ohio State University officer had detained a man matching the suspect’s description — a black male wearing a bright orange jacket — at the northeast corner of North High Street and Lane Avenue.
The man was identified as Anntwon Allen. He was taken into custody without incident and is now facing robbery charges in connection with the confrontation.
