Maryland Lottery players unlock thousands in cash at second live game event
BALTIMORE, MD – Two Maryland Lottery players from Brooklyn Park and Joppatowne cracked open safes and walked away with thousands in cash and scratch-off prizes during the second Unlock the Cash Second-Chance Live Game at Lottery headquarters.
Sallie Drake of Joppatowne and Tania Shreve of Brooklyn Park were selected from more than 126,000 entries to participate in the live event, where players open safes containing sealed envelopes with mystery prize amounts. Each participant was guaranteed to win between $5,000 and $25,000 in cash or prizes.
During the game, both Sallie and Tania took turns inputting combinations and opening safes. Sallie’s two envelopes totaled $5,000 in cash and $300 worth of Break the Bank scratch-offs. Tania’s first envelope revealed a $15,000 prize, which drew cheers from her fiancé Tom. Her second safe added another $2,500 and $300 in scratch-offs, bringing her total winnings to $17,500.
Drake, a retired Johns Hopkins employee, said she plans to “pay it forward,” while Shreve, a grocery store worker and mother, hopes to use the winnings for a vacation.
The Unlock the Cash promotion began August 22 and will conclude with a final drawing on November 6. A third live event will follow, where two more winners will have a chance to claim additional cash and scratch-off prizes.
