Suspect arrested after armed carjacking ends in crash on Baltimore-Washington Parkway
WASHINGTON, DC — A man was arrested in connection with an armed carjacking in Northeast after a confrontation on Hayes Street led to the theft of a vehicle that later crashed along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, when the victim was seated inside his vehicle in the 3800 block of Hayes Street NE. A suspect approached the vehicle and tried to open the door, prompting the victim to step out. The suspect then used pepper spray on the victim, got into the vehicle, and fled. The victim sought medical treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Minutes after the carjacking, the stolen vehicle crashed on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near the Capital Beltway. Officers responding to the scene placed the suspect into custody.
On Wednesday, November 12, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Demitrius Johnson of Southeast, DC, was extradited from Prince George’s County to the District on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. Johnson was charged with Armed Carjacking involving the use of pepper spray.
