Suspect arrested weeks after 55-year-old man was found dead

NORTHEAST DC — A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old man who was found unresponsive on Irving Street during the early morning hours of the Fourth of July, authorities said.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded at approximately 5:54 a.m. Friday, July 4, to the 1800 block of Irving Street Northeast after receiving a report of an unconscious person.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man who was unconscious and not breathing. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.

The victim was later identified as 55-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi of Northeast DC. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

On Tuesday, July 21, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 53-year-old George Shaw of Northeast DC pursuant to a Superior Court arrest warrant.

Shaw has been charged with first-degree murder while armed (premeditated).

Police have not released additional information about what led to the shooting or a possible motive.

The charge is an allegation, and Shaw is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
