Waco, TX – A 19-year-old man faces serious charges after allegedly planning to kill his child’s mother’s new boyfriend. Hugo Carlin was booked into McLennan County Jail on Wednesday, where he is held on $250,000 bail.
Carlin reportedly expressed a desire to confront the victim and sought assistance from friends for transportation. He sent a text message stating, “I need gas money bro,” to Elian Araujo, 22, who later picked him up along with two others.
During the ride, Waco police stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered multiple firearms inside. Officers found that Carlin was armed with a semiautomatic rifle while another individual had firearms in their waistband.
Carlin’s communications with Araujo suggested he was preparing to commit murder or aggravated assault. Additional arrests were made, as both Araujo and another friend, Misael Jiminez, 21, were charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Law enforcement indicated that one individual was not charged after cooperating with the investigation. The case raises concerns about violent intentions and the ease of access to firearms.
