Havre de Grace man claims $500K Maryland Lottery scratch-off prize
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A longtime scratch-off player from Havre de Grace has officially collected a $500,000 prize from the Maryland Lottery, a win he described as a “game changer” as he and his wife now look forward to full retirement.
The man, who claimed his winnings on November 26 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, scored the half-million-dollar prize on the $20 Gifts of Green scratch-off ticket. The win comes just one month after he claimed $20,000 from a separate Ravens-themed scratch-off.
While the couple has been semi-retired, they say this latest win opens the door to stepping away from work entirely. Still, the winner noted that his wife insists they’ll “still need something to do.”
Along with retirement plans, the winner is distributing part of the prize among family and has set his sights on a vacation, possibly to Italy. The longtime player said these two recent wins are by far the largest he’s ever had, with his previous best topping out at around $1,000.
The winning ticket was sold at Post Road Liquors, located at 1123 Revolution Street in Havre de Grace. For selling the ticket, the Harford County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus.
The Gifts of Green ticket launched on October 17 with seven top prizes of $500,000. With this win, six top prizes remain unclaimed, along with six $25,000 prizes and thousands more ranging from $20 to $5,000.
