Lancaster man admits to drunk‑driving crash that left pedestrian with severe injuries

LANCASTER, PA – A Lancaster city man has pleaded guilty to a series of charges stemming from a violent DUI crash that left a pedestrian with life‑threatening injuries after he was struck on Oregon Pike in Manheim Township.

Tyler Anthony Stewart, 31, of Calvert Lane, entered the plea on November 17 before Judge Dennis Reinaker. He admitted guilt to felony counts including aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, accidents involving death or injury while not licensed, aggravated assault by vehicle, and multiple misdemeanor and summary offenses. Sentencing will follow a pre‑sentence investigation.

According to investigators, Stewart told police he had consumed a pint of vodka hours before the October 18 crash, which occurred as he was running late to pick up his girlfriend from work. The victim, found lying in the roadway with extensive injuries including a traumatic brain injury, a fractured pelvis, spinal damage, and severe road rash, required months of intubation.

A blood draw revealed Stewart had a blood alcohol content of 0.437 percent—more than five times the legal limit. His license was also suspended at the time.

Video from a nearby business recorded Stewart speeding without headlights just before 11 p.m., traveling at roughly twice the posted speed limit. As officers tended to the injured pedestrian, they saw Stewart crash into a pole in an adjacent business lot. His heavily damaged vehicle indicated a pedestrian had been struck. Stewart, also injured, later acknowledged he believed he had hit someone and subsequently admitted drinking before driving.

Assistant District Attorney Kyle Linardo prosecuted the case, which was filed by Manheim Township Police Officer Adam Lawson.
