Baltimore father carjacked while loading child as suspects crash into cop car during chase

Baltimore, MD — A man was placing his child into a car seat Thursday morning when two suspects robbed him at gunpoint and stole his vehicle, sparking a manhunt that ended hours later with a police cruiser damaged, an officer injured, and both suspects in custody.

The carjacking happened around 9:15 a.m. on December 5 in the 2900 block of Terry Drive, according to the Baltimore Police Department. The 26-year-old victim was loading his child into the car when two unknown individuals approached him with a weapon, stole the vehicle, and fled. The victim was able to remove the child from the car moments before the suspects sped off.

Police broadcast a description of the stolen vehicle and the suspects. At around 3 p.m., officers spotted the vehicle driving in the 2900 block of Garrison Boulevard. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspects struck a patrol car, causing damage and leaving an officer with minor injuries.

Both suspects then fled on foot but were captured following a short chase.

Detectives arrested a 17-year-old female and a 19-year-old male. Their names have not been released due to the age of one of the suspects. Both were transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with multiple offenses, including armed carjacking, robbery, and reckless endangerment.
