SMITHSBURG, MD – A Washington County man’s self-gift this holiday season turned into a $50,000 windfall after a Ravens-themed Maryland Lottery scratch-off delivered a second-tier prize.

Baltimore Ravens fan and longtime Lottery player Henry Groulx decided to include a few $10 Ravens X10 scratch-offs in his own Christmas stocking this year. When he sat down to open presents on Christmas morning, one of those tickets proved to be worth far more than he expected.

“I scanned the ticket using the Maryland Lottery app, and the message said to take it to the Lottery,” Groulx said after claiming his winnings December 30 in Baltimore. “I went back to the store to double check, and sure enough, it said $50,000.”

Groulx purchased the lucky ticket at the AC&T convenience store at 22507 Jefferson Boulevard in Smithsburg. He said the win still doesn’t feel real and hasn’t yet made plans for the prize, choosing instead to continue his federal government job, spend time in his garage working on cars, and cheer on the Ravens.

The Ravens X10 scratch-off launched in August and still has several prizes remaining, including two $200,000 top prizes, two more $50,000 second-tier prizes, and thousands of smaller wins.
