Dinwiddie woman uncovers forgotten $100000 Virginia Lottery ticket

Dinwiddie, VA — A Virginia woman’s decision to scratch off some forgotten lottery tickets weeks after buying them led to a $100,000 surprise.

Stephanie Cox Carter purchased several scratchers in mid-December from Dinwiddie Food Barn, located at 14011 Boydton Plank Road. She set them aside and forgot about them—until recently, when she rediscovered the tickets and revealed a top prize winner from the 10X the Money game.

The winning ticket was one of the last in the game’s run. Carter claimed the third and final top prize in game #2317, triggering the closure of the scratcher, in accordance with Virginia Lottery policy. The odds of winning the $100,000 top prize were 1 in 1,142,400.

10X the Money is now officially closed, though players can still claim any remaining lower-tier prizes until the posted expiration date.

Carter’s win adds to the Lottery’s strong performance in support of public education. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Virginia Lottery generated over $901 million for K-12 education statewide. Dinwiddie County, where the winning ticket was purchased, received more than $4.5 million in Lottery funding last fiscal year.
