Glendale man pleads guilty in street attack on 9 year old girl and off duty NYPD sergeant

Queens, NY — A Glendale man has pleaded guilty to multiple felony assault charges after attacking a 9 year old girl on a residential street and biting off part of an off duty police sergeant’s finger when he was stopped by bystanders.

Feliz Enrique, 31, admitted in Queens Supreme Court to assault in the first, second and third degrees, attempted assault in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child. The plea stems from a May 10 incident near the intersection of 67th Place and Central Avenue in Glendale.

Prosecutors said Enrique approached the child while she was playing outside and asked her name. After she responded, he struck her in the face with his hand, knocking her to the ground.

An off duty NYPD sergeant and two nearby civilians immediately intervened and attempted to detain Enrique. During the struggle, Enrique bit the sergeant multiple times and severed the top portion of the officer’s right index finger.

Queens Supreme Court Justice Toni Cimino indicated Enrique will be sentenced to 17 years in prison when he returns to court on February 2.
